Canon or OC is a very dissed topic, but no one seems to agree, so is OC or Canon better?
I think as Canon, so the fanbased piece sound. When write in similar to the bookk you can still be original, and add your characters. When your crazy creativeness invade too much, the piece seems strange.

Frankly, I often have a prejudice against other people's OCs in fanfiction. Also once again Moonlight, you should say what the acronym stands for in the title so people will know what the topic is about.
Now I'll explain what canon and OC are very briefly. Canon means it goes along with the original story. For example, if you were to write a Zelda fanfic, the facts and characters in the story would have to follow along with how they were originally written in the games and such. In this case, canon refers to the characters that are already in the series, such as Link, Zelda, Malon, and Ganondorf.
OC stands for original character and is just as basic as that: a character the author created. People often tend to make Mary Sues, which is the term for perfect, overpowered female characters. I don't know the exact term for the male version of Mary Sue characters, since it isn't used as commonly as the female version.
Whenever I see <insert canon char here>/OC (the slash means that it is a pairing) I shudder and cringe a bit and avoid that fic like a plague. It's hard to make a really good OC that is not a Mary Sue (or the male version).

But yeh, canon. Definitely.

Yes, I hate mary sues too
The male version is Gary stue.
Ah, I only hate it when they pair the canon main character, or a good looking character in the story with h ocs. That's usually a Mary Sue/Gary Stue. E.g. Jack Sparrow/oc. Sirius Black/oc Hermion Granger/oc.
Fangirls, thinks, "I want to mary him, I love him/her so much, I'll make a character of my self, and I am in it. Weeeee, I am married to them!"
(throw up)
The grosses thing in fanfiction, especially with Jack Sparrow, and Sirius Black! POTC is filled with it. Not much is Mary Sue/Gary Stue free.

Fangirls, thinks, "I want to mary him, I love him/her so much, I'll make a character of my self, and I am in it. Weeeee, I am married to them!" That is basically what created Mary Sues; stupid fangirls making a character based off of themselves, modifying the char to be completely perfect, and then pairing this flawless abomination with the character that they wanted to be paired with. It's really stupid...in such cases they should get a real man, rather than writing themselves with someone who doesn't exist.

Well, for a HP fic I'm writing, I'm having it Draco and a new character, but she's no where near perfect. Her character has a point and it fits in. Sometimes those characters work, but I do agree when people make a character just to hook them up with a canon character because they want their fantasy played out.

Most of those are little fucking eleven years oldds that don't quite care. They write sucky writing on purpose, and they think it's cool. When the rest of us damn critique, they just spit shit at us. Fuck, I hate them those little immature brats that take every crit as a flame!
