Here is a persuasive essay I wrote in class. Sorry If it's harsh. It's about if winning is a good thing
The Biggest Obstacle In Life
"Sniggering troll shut up!!!!! You just lost you know?" Insulting was a big thing for me, when my life was all about winning a couple of years ago. It was in complete darkness and anger was boiling inside me. That's all I knew and that's all I cared about. The pride of myself and winning everything if possible was life for me. It appeared to me after sometime that it was not the best lifestyle I could live.
Winning causes us harm and quite a bit is an understatement. A major impact could be the cost of winning to many people. It costs pride, obstacles, unhappiness, suicide, drinking, problems, pains, a cause to hurt others, and harsh consequences. It's not so sweet to win after it has totally taken over your life. Winning is only good to a certain point, but the better thing to think is life is not just about winning. If someone's all about winning, then they're definitely missing something to the element of life.
Well, a few years back, I could proudly claim I was all about winning. I thought I never could lose or be wrong. I came from a family all about winning, and personally I hadn't known any better. If I had known better, I wouldn't have chosen the path I went on, and not even for a bilion dollars. I was one of those girls who cared about surpremity and me winning every single thing only and if that wasn't achieved then life was not pretty. If I lose I would be insulting people, threatening to hurt them back, scream at them, yelling, crying after a bit of thought in the private of my room, cause myself pain, blame myself, and torture myself. It was not pretty and it certainly was not comfortable at all. So, I decided this horrible lifestyle was not quite for me, and I will not live this way ever again. I am glad I just cut the habits out, because now I see the consequences I could have put myself through.
Often when people who only care about winning and they don't win they get thoroughly upset. They are unhappy, and wish to cause themselves harm. People cut, beat, or otherwise use methods to brutally scar themselves, torturing the body fiercely. If looked at closely enough, people can tell how some people feel by reactions and how they talk about themselves. This could possibly indicate how brutally harsh they will hurt themselves either physically or emotionally. I heard way too many people say how they sucked, and I've also heard people say they think they're losers, because they've just lost. Without wanting to win and making it the goal of their life these problems, wouldn't be such a issue, because people who don't care about winning don't need to blame themselves. The people who wish to win all the time tends to blame themselves a lot more than the people, who doesn't particularly care. It's always someone elses fault they did not win. The truth is, it would have to be either themselves, someone else, both parties, or no one's fault. I know some people who is all about winning. If they don't win they're all about blaming themselves or others. All they talk about for days is how the other person had made them at fault, and insulting others is the only topic that they discuss.
Some people are so depressed that they didn't win something, they will litterally go kill themselves. People don't go and commit suicide just because they want to, but there's always a reason although they don't tell anyone. People just don't do it for fun either, because how will jumping off a building to end a life possibly be fun. It's not particularly fun, unless they're strapped and secured in safe, but that's a completely different story. I heard of countless reports on the news about people going off of buildings or hanging themselves. There's many people who do that, and just because they didn't win, their life had sadly ended dramatically, but tragically.
There's always tons of reasons out there for people who didn't win to commit suicide, and it's rather psychological the whole process is. Most people that is all about winning thinks unhighly of themselves, and if they didn't win they would think life was not valuable at all. People also think, if they didn't win, then they couldn't possibly live with themselves any longer, and so they are willing to die.
Drinking is another issue with winners. Some people, who don't win use alcohol to make themselves less sad. They drink until they are drunk, so they don't have to think about losing. A famous author by the name of Tennessee Williams got into alcohol, because of the same reason, which is failure. Just look at how many binge drinkers their are out there, and the reasons for them to start doing so. Some of these people, who are binge drinkers could have started, because of the whole thing with losing. If people were not all about winning, then this problem won't ever occur.
Some people who tend to not want to suck up the factor of them losing, blames it on everybody else, but themselves and this is very common. I once went through that, and I know it's not the most pleasant thing to endure. If a person's goal is winning at everything in life it will cause this at one point or another, and it's not pleasant, so why endure it, when it's almost absolutely one hundred percent avoidable. The only time it's not, is if you are a person who only cares about sad things, and blames everyone else for things, but otherwise it will probably not be a problem with anybody. This happens mostly with the people deeply in to sports, but there is indeed exceptions such as certain Asian cultures. Some parents, who are all about winning forces their child to win or else unpleasant things might be upon them.
they resort to hurting and beating them up. Not winning is causing them shame, so they are forced into depression.
Winning is only one thing, but there's really no reason to be all about winning. It's all just pride and joy, which is not something worth living on. Winners can't really do anything with winning either, because what should the winners do, except for going to the national olympics to brag foolishly. I don't think anyone cares that someone wins. I don't think winning should matter, because honestly if, someone wins something, and no one gives a care, so why win. Happiness all the way through life is the important thing, instead of winning.
Winning has much effect on the health of people as well. Besides going about wasting themselves in alcohol, losers tend to be moody. They have a large range of mood swings, which involves mostly dark feelings. They also can't sleep, because they yearn to win so badly that they can't wait for the competition the next day. The mood swings and sleeplessness is part of the destruction of your health. There is of course always alternatives to winning.
There's more to everyone's life and it's not just winning. We were not placed on this earth to win, and we shall make our lives more productive. We shall not waste them in such absurd things as winning. If you are only happy when you win then what's the point to life, because there's no point. People should be happy everyday. No matter if you win or lose. Laughing at things, laughing at people, and amusing yourself is always a good alternative. If people don't do these alternatives then life is all about pride.
Pride is no one's friend, and it's only bad for you, as much as people want to think it's good denying the truth. Maybe a little bit is all right, but not too much, and if your whole life is about pride then it is definitely too much. In this short story named the Scarlet Ibis, this brother had pride, and it only harmed the other brother far from helping him at all. Pride makes disappointments, and it causes people to give up life sometimes. The younger brother failed and the other brother just ran for his life. It forces people to want to over achieve, and they could die from that, because they stressed out way to much. it's everyday this stress is.
Over all being destructive is part of wanting to win, because it does more harm then good. It actually doesn't do much good, maybe short term goodness, but long term goodness couldn't be achieved if life is all about winning to the person. People who are all about winning are rather violent and destructive. It can also be said that they insult people for their contentment, and can hurt others emotionally by ranting at them. They can also hurt themselves both physically and emotionally even more then they are already, which is caused by the fact that they didn't win. They also tend to think badly of the world, themselves, and generally the human race. People who are all about winning are also very hopeless, find no point to life, depress, not confident, and calls themselves names.
All in all, being a loser or a winner shouldn't matter to anyone since it only makes the person who cares suffer. The price is a heavy price to pay if a person just wants to win all the time. The best choice would ultimately be just try to be content and don't allow winning to take over. If winning is a lifestyle someone lives, it's equal to a disease such as being an alcoholic. It'll always be better to not care about your diseases and just be happy for once. So, winning or losing shouldn't matter to people, because then you might as well drowned yourself in strong alcohol, not caring about the effects.
