Do you guys think we would be better off without religion? You think our diff beliefs drive us futher apart from each other?
I just can't imagine walking the earth without "Hope", Its like why i'm even talking to my family members getting to know them when i'm not gonna see them "afterlife"....why keep on living, might as well just end it now if there's no heaven or hell. Thats why i don't understand people that don't believe in god or the big bang or somekinda reason they exist. so yea i think we as people need religion that sense of "hope" in our lives. and yea our diff beliefs drive us apart.

No, I think people are normally stupid. We always will be, no matter if there were religion(s) or not.

Well, I could go one way and say that religion itself has only gone on to cause conflict. I don't think there is a base religion in the world today that hasn't been ostracized or discriminated against to the point where they were hunted like animals.
But I honestly believe the world is better off with religion in it.
The problem isn't religion, it's people. People with big egos who insist that they are right and everyone else is wrong and they need to do something to make them see the world the way they do.
Religion is a unique part of human culture. Removing it would be like removing books from society. It's what makes us individuals and brings us together at the same time. And yes, for some of us, it brings us hope.

i think things would be better without organized religion. the organizations around religion spread intolerance. war, crime this things don't concern me. what concerns me is when people hate others because they look, think or believe differentially. and you don't need to believe in a god to be spiritual.

ive heard things from some cultures in africa. if they hadnt had someone to look up to and believe that they lay in Gods hands, totally reliant upon Him, theyd probably shoot themselves... i dont agree btw. we need organized religions. how would you learn to believe? you wouldnt. youd start trying to figure out the meaning of life etc by yourself, and never come to an answer, youd go crazy trying to find out.

i believe that only by thinking and figuring things out for oneself can you ever be enlightened. you don't need the organization the study the faith.

[glow=purple,2,300] Seriousness enters now.
This is more of a double edged knife. On one hand we are better off without religion because we get rid of one aspect for war, but on the other hand we get rid of an inspiraton for some of the greatest works of art that exist (may come into existence) [/glow]

i don't think doing away with religion is a good idea. i just think we'd be better off without the organizations attached to the religions. i think that most of the bad things that come out of religion aren't because of the religion itself but the organization built on it.

I think people use religion as an excuse to be assholes. Even if they didn't have religion, they would still be assholes.

I thought this quote (From Cowboy Bebop, no less) was interesting...
I believe it. In my opinion, this is the truth, and what I would base our reality on.

"Better" in what context? If you dont elaborate on it, i would have to assume that by "better" you mean "what is better for me" as in you. Thats entirely subjective. I wouldnt know how to answer your question then.

[glow=maroon,2,300] I believe he means that is "humanity" better off without religion.
If you look historically how many conquests were there that used religion as an excuse.
How many people died as a result of being a different religion than someone else.
And how many people hate others because they don't see thing a certain way.
However, on the other hand how many things created because of a particular religion are there?
Artistist's depictions of their gods, the pyramids (both aztec, and egyptian)...ect. [/glow]
