[glow=red,2,300] There was a time in my senior year of high school that I was sitting in my Creative Writing class and the real teacher wasn't as sick as she usually was and decided to show up for two days...before falling ill again and didn't show up for the rest of that semester.
Anyway on one of the two days she was there she was saying that as a required assignment for in class credit we were to write down what ever was in our minds for the first ten minutes of class. Even if such individuals didn't have anything to say with any real depth she did accept a mix of words that took up as much space as the 10 minutes allowed.
What this teacher believed is that by doing this it allowed the mind to clear up and make room for the space of creativity. While at the time I was open to that kind of thing and it was during the year that I couldn't write a poem to save my life. I proceeded to try to write things that at least made sense......So if you got this far i assume that I am failing miserably..
I guess the point I am asking to be debated is this:
Do you think that this teacher is correct in assuming that if you write down such nonsense, or even a thought that s consuming your time, that such a practice can help in good writing? [/glow]

Never tried it, but maybe it can work
Not everything will work for everybody. Can't say for sure.

I'm not sure, I've never heard of that method. It might work for some people but probably not everyone.

pfff i remember having to do something like that too... i think all it does is make you aware of what youre thinking? and how you jump from one weird thought to another one without connections? i dont see it doing anything to improve creativity... but idk

[glow=purple,2,300] ^ With that I disagree.
I've just written crap down before and it's kinda scared me how I can go from playing on monkey bars to chewing a baby's fingers while it's still alive. [/glow]

I did say it works for me didn't garentee it would work for everyone. How you got from monkey bars to baby fingers is beyond me.

[glow=purple,2,300] My point exactly.
I'd rather not have the chaos inside my head be eloquently put on paper for another person to read, and suggest that I go see a psychiatrist. [/glow]

this would never work for me for one as i've said elsewhere i have dyslexia so my mind is far far faster then i can possibly ever hope to write. it takes a lot of concentration for me to read or write and even then i don't do it well. for me it's best i do all the writing in my head before i put anything to paper. besides it's probably best no one knows what's going on in my mind.

just because something is difficult doesn't mean there can be no enjoyment from it. only by doing what troubles me can i improve and grow. besides i tragically enjoy writing.
